History

Centre Hall Borough, Potter Township and Gregg Township, with the assistance of a DCNR grant, purchased from Penn State University (who preferred to sell it to local municipalities) 165 acres in Potter Township along SR2006, ¼ mile west of Centre Hall Borough.  The main purpose of this purchase was to protect well heads (3) for the Centre Hall Borough Water Department. In addition, this acreage would provide recreational opportunities for the Penns Valley region, including the school district.

Purchase of the land was consistent with recommendations of the Centre County Comprehensive Plan, the Penns Valley Regional Comprehensive Plan, the Upper Penns Creek Watershed Assessment, the Spring Creek Rivers Conservation Plan, and the Centre County Natural Heritage Inventory,
